The Tonga Islands of Vava'u with their safe anchorages and secluded coves offers one of the world's finest sailing holidays in the South Pacific. The Northernmost group of the Tonga Islands, the Vavau islands are blessed with a near-perfect climate for year-round sailing. Accommodation onboard the beautiful skippered sailing yacht Jocara gives you a unique opportunity to fully explore this stunning tropical island paradise.

Humpback whales

Jocara is equipped with a custom built hydrophone system which allows guests to listen to and record Humpback whale song, a fascinating and eerie display that is believed to be an important part of the breeding behaviour of Humpbacks in the Vava’u island group. Recordings can be transfered to CD for guests to take home with them as a wonderful and unique souvenir.

South Pacific Snorkeling

Remote and truly unspoiled, the waters around Vava'u are crystal clear with visibilty exceeding 100 feet. Most of the islands are uninhabited, a few have villages, a few have very small unique resorts with exceptional food. On a Vavau sailing charter on Jocara we explore the 40 islands of the Vava'u group. Anchoring near a different Vavau island each night. You can explore the island, snorkel or just relax. Some of the smaller, uninhabited islands, are surrounded by white sand beaches, while others have dramatic limestone cliffs with sea level caves. Besides snorkeling, we can hike through lush tropical forests to vistas overlooking sheer cliffs where the surf crashes in the turqouise water, or we can explore a stretch of beach, poking into tidepools full of marine life.

Marine Wildlife while Sailing Tonga

Over 100 species of colorful tropical fish, giant clams, manta rays, sea turtles, spinner dolphins, not to mention the Humpback whales! Whether you are a novice snorkeler or an advanced scuba diver, Vava'u has a vast array of underwater wilderness for you to explore. And you can experience it in warm tropical water with visibility often exceeding 100 ft. There are snorkeling opportunities in shallow water close to shore, where you can relax floating just above a fascinating aquatic wilderness, or we can arrange scuba diving at an additional cost. While living onboard Jocara you can explore a different tropical island each day, as well as sailing through one of the most beautiful island groups in the South Pacific. If you want to visit between mid-July and mid-October, you can charter Jocara for sailing and whale watching.
